So the official World Cup 2006 anthem has been released by UK 'rock' *cough* pathetic boy *cough* band, Embrace. To hear a snippet, visit the BBC website. I vote that this has to be one of the worst football anthems I have ever heard.
For starters these boys are a bunch of fugly mingers. There's no Ricky Martin charm, no exotic shashay of the hips, no frivolity, no festival atmosphere. No pounding of drums.
Secondly, as the BBC rightly points out, they don't actually mention the world football in the entire 3 minute ditty. You can't claim to allude to football, as though this musical composition is some sort of metaphysical masterpiece. The masses want to hear "goal..." "ole..." "score.." "blow that whistle one more time referee and I'll shove it up yer'rase." An anthem should be about passion and "You lift it up with one proud kiss" just doesn't cut the mustard.
This anthem is pathetic, Shannon Noll could have done a better job. Anything out of last years Eurovision contest could have done a better job. Hell, a Kanye tribute to World Cup Bling would far surpass Embrace's efforts.
