IREZUMI – The Japanese way of Art
irezumi

Even for those who have never heard of Irezumi, it is familiar to consider Japan as one of country which has always had the most influence on arts and art designs worldwide:

.The art of being women - geishas
.The ukiyo-e - unique painting style
.The art of war - martial arts

.The poems - most of all haikus
.The art of gardening - the famous Zen Buddhist Japanese Garders
.Tthe art of teamaking - O-cha-no yu

Just to name a few and now let me introduce Irezumi to those who haven’t heard of it before.

Irezumi is the art of making tattoo, with it’s roots in the Middle Ages, with many legends around it, was a long lasting and quite painful but extremely punctual and effective way to making tattoos on warriors, to enchance their faith in themselves and physical strenght in appearance, Still today many tattoos bare certain codes and meanings, in such ways that many of them were adapted a few hundred years later by the yakuza –the japanese mafia- with such reputation along with them , that even these days no japanese is allowed to visit any public bath or hotel who has any large or visible tattoos.

The method of Irezumi still exists in Japan, although only a few people or yakuza can afford the money, the time and the pain to bare such a months- long process, yet is always beautiful just to see these unique and beautiful handworks. To give some helping hand for you all who’d like to see some examples of Irezumi, I have enclosed some photos and videos . Have a great time watching them ! In case anyone would like to try Irezumi please write me.
