The Lowest Point In The History Of Political Blogs

Noted Australian Aboriginal leader Geoff Clark last week was found liable in a civil suit brought against him by a woman who claims he raped her 35 years ago. He was ordered to pay $20,000 damages for his responsibility for the rape.

Mr Clark then proceeded to say that the verdict represented "the lowest point in the history of this country".

Well, that's the sort of attitude you want in a leader of the indigenous community, isn't it? That's the kind of mindset that should make meaningful progress in negotiations toward redressing past grievances.

Massacres by white settlers? Eh, not so bad.

The removal of Aboriginal children from their natural parents and forced assimilation into white communities? A mere bagatelle.

Aboriginal deaths in custody? Well, I'm not claiming it was a picnic, but...

Third World infant mortality rate? Drastically reduced life expectancy? Negligible health care? Rampant alcoholism, unemployment and domestic violence???

Pffft.

Where Australia really hits a low point, is when Geoff Clark loses a court case because of the nasty white people. It's getting so that a proud indigenous warrior can't even kick back with a bunch of friendly rapists without getting hassled by the MAN.

Of course, I wasn't in the courtroom. But surely there's some provision for imposing a $20,000 fine for being a dickhead.

Geoff who?

Wasn't he on Dancing with the Stars?
If we could impose $20,000 fines for being dickheads, the NSW revenue collection department on Macquarie St would have thought of it already.

Then would come the GST on said fine, and then the extra state Stamp Duty on top of that.

Dancing with the Stars? That's probably next.
